Daughters of Penelope
The mission of the DOP is to promote the ancient Greek ideals of Hellenism, Education, Philanthropy, Civic Responsibility, and Family and Individual Excellence.
Founded in San Francisco in 1929, the Daughters of Penelope is the first women’s organization of its kind established in the United States. It is an affiliate organization of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA). The AGAPE Chapter of the Daughters of Penelope began with a membership of thirteen women and has grown to over 100 since its inception almost 40 years ago, in 1975.

Who benefits from our fundraisers...
Our donations to worthy causes fly out almost as soon as the money is deposited into our account, and our causes are very diverse … In addition to well-known charities like St. Basil Academy, the YWCA, Wounded Warriors, AHE PA Cooley’s Anemia Fund, and Penelope House (a Domestic Family Violence Center in Mobile, Alabama), we helped victims of the Oklahoma tornadoes and orphan children in Guatemala. We sponsored “Lenten Lectures” at our home church of St. Nicholas and supported members of our community with meals and tuition assistance. We also award scholarships to qualified graduating high school seniors as well as undergraduates.
